Actually, a wheel is a "controller" just as a game pad is.

Some people (like me) have spent ££££'s on their preferred way to control the sim they enjoy, so they're hardly going to be picking up a gamepad to do a few laps are they.

Equally, there's people out there that are not as fortunate to be in a position to able to spend a months wages on a wheelbase, or either physically able to use one and also, as they've grown up using a gamepad (like the majority of us here) they're so in-tune with the coordination needed they're as fast as they need/want to be...have you seen some of the laptimes people have done on the leader boards? Really impressive!

Or maybe they just plain don't want to.

I'm not going to dictate to anyone how and what they should do, just as I wouldn't want someone to try do that to me...if your enjoying something the way your approach it, carry on, but everyone is different and that might not be what someone on the opposite side of the world thinks...just do what you enjoy and carry on enjoying it how *you* want.to.

And now I must leave you, there's a bacon sandwich downstairs with my name on it and it's getting cold! :D

i can play it with a leverless controller, does that make it a fighting game?

From what I've heard - if you also participate in a public lobby, it's a definite yes...

True, but at least VR goes in the right direction to approximate those feelings as it can trick our brains. ;)
Many people experience true fear in VR games (e.g. „Richie's plank experience“) although they should know that they are standing in a safe environment in their own living room… :D

So if i play Need for Speed on a wheel, it becomes a hardcore simulator ?
Also maybe you are too young to remember or they did not have those where you live, but old arcades were made with wheel and pedal sets, to simulate you driving a car, they did not have gamepads.

I think sims are RPG games in disguise.

I quoted "the internet" because this seems to be the general consensus if there's not a rule.
Do you know Pitskill.io? Its like a LFM alternative and they force you to read a document and complete a questionnaire about it. Basically they say that. But of course that's their own rules.

Here is Suellio Almeida explaining how to dive bomb using a real life example.

Some years ago when I hadn't started making money, playing assetto corsa on my ps4 with a controller was quite enjoyable and immersive for me even though it was an extremely suboptimal experience in retrospection.

I used to have tons of fun sweating it out and trying to emulate Stefan Bellof with a 962C on the nordschleife. Was it not how it 'should' be played? Yes. Was it extremely enjoyable? Absolutely. So no, imo expensive gear isn't quite necessary.

Everybody is entitled to have their opinions, it doesnt mean their opinion doesnt suck, or that their opinion need to be respected.

If you think pad is not a viable input device, you just underestimate people's ability to perfect their skills even within the most absurd disciplines. You can achieve a level of precision and control with a pad that closely mimicks that of a wheel. At that point, you're controlling a simulated racecar, not in the way they're doing it in real life, but the inputs translate in a way that's fundamentally the same (50% of X= 50% turn-in).

Arguably that needs more sophisticated skills than being quick with a steering wheel, and you still need to judge the mechanical limits of your vehicle to judge your inputs correctly.

Almost as if it's a viable way to achieve the limit within mechanical constraints, which I would think racing is about.

I disagree, I have never yet been able to stay alongside a pad user around a long turn or even normal turn, you cannot control an arc with a game pad the way you can with a steering wheel (unless it is all done with aids).

Depends on a game to game basis tbh. I've played against controller players in ACC who can trail brake and everything.

trail-braking is not maintaining an arc and there may be some exceptional users of a pad but it is not by any means all of them.

This is too generic. The sim remains the same but there is a significant difference between driving it from T-Cam view then to drive it from chase view.

Honestly controller or wheel it makes no odds.
Im am quite sure there are people out there racing real life adapted cars for disability reason's. Would any of you complaining about what input is used really have the minerals to stand up to one of said drivers and say your not really racing cos your throttle is a lever not a pedal
