Personally I have a DD wheel and a current mid-high end PC. I'm a lucky ageing bloke that can afford such luxury. Once upon a time I had a second hand console a well worn game pad and Forza 1. I loved that, fantastic, the most amazing sim (game)!

Don't listen to the bigoted naysayers, enjoy the game(s) you play, the way you play them. And never underestimate human potential.

I took part in an open lobby GT4 race not so long ago and watching back the replay from the race i saw one person trying to race with a gamepad. I have always used a wheel and use my gamepad only when taking livery screenshots. Even though i think driving with a gamepad is totally viable, you certainly are at a disadvantage compared to those on a wheel.

I remember when jacques villeneuve during covid, raced ex F1 drivers and esport drivers who had really expensive rigs, with his Xbox controller and was as fast.

although it’s always been my assumption by the very nature of controller support you are getting steering assist to make the controller work. So it’s very different way to race. Which is totally valid if it gets you in the game and it’s fun

While it's true it's more challenging to stay side by side with a pad, and it's easy to make mistakes, I would argue you've simply never raced against someone who was in control of the device...

These discussions are as useless as the discussions about Sim A is better than Sim B and Sim C is better than Sim A. Let people play the way they want and can. Controller support is present in Ams2, so let people use it if they want. Personally, I have almost all the hardware I need to play a simulation. But I also use a TV and controller to play other games (Gran turismo or Forza or simila

Aside from some childish comments about gamepad users, not really worth the time aside from telling these people that not matter how hard they try and pretend every consumer sim on the market is nothing but a glorified game at the end of the day, I'll add a couple more things:

    - you can drive and compete well with a gamepad, I have a 9.83 SR on LFM (9.99 is the max) and 9/10 times that I have been involved in a crash it was the other guy's fault.

    - improving the gamepad experience means broadening the user base significantly. Just look at the charts OverTake publishes monthly about the most played racing games. At the top are the ones that offer the best gamepad support (BeamNG, Assetto Corsa, ACC, Forza Horizon). Most of them do numbers that are in the tenfold superior to those that AMS does. And before coming in hot with the numb comments "we don't want to get more people playing, we're good as it is" think about this: broadening the user base means getting way more income. More income means more (prestigious) licenses, more opportunities, more features, more hiring and expansion. Don't you want that for AMS?

Yes, it was meant more as a joke. Probably everyone has aspects where they would like more detail or realism. Personally I would probably never have put emphasis on the realism of gloves in a racing simulation, simply because I don't know exactly what they should look like. And also because I don't pay attention to them when I'm driving. But like I said: everyone has their wishes and preferences and that's perfectly fine. The closer we get to simulating reality, the better.

I mean T-cam views are the way, real life broadcasts are accompaigned with, and there is a reason for that: the sensation of speed is huge, watching this type of footage from a racing car, especially from open wheelers, isn't it? And it is exactly this experience, you can replicate as well in virtual racing sessions, just by choosing the T-cam view:

    In a simple word, no!

Everyone is free and entitled to an opinion, even a wrong one. :p

Realism, if that's what you want, is through the driver's eyes - helmet cam!

Needless to say however, it's not real at all. It's a game, yes a simulation, but a game. We sit in a chair stationary, maybe even lay on a couch or bed. Unless you have a motion rig of course, but even then no real forward motion and only a fraction of g-forces experienced in real life, simulated seat of pants feel through a wheel (if you have a wheel) no sense of danger, cost of damage... Blah blah I could go on but you get the picture I hope.

It's just a game, albeit a good one, pretending, recreation, fantasy, map not territory.

I just pointed out, that with the T-cam view you visually can replicate real live footage from a racing car within your car in a racing sim.. (and I wanna add: especially in AMS2, because here you have the full control over your driving cam adjustments!) Nothing more and nothing less..

Sorry it was a bit of a ranting reply. What I was trying to say, albeit badly as I forgot and ranted, was that we now have helmet cam in the official F1 broadcast.

I actually prefer the T-Cam because of the sense of speed, I can be just as fast/slow with both helmet or T-Cam, but the sense of speed is much better with the later.

At the end of the day as many have said, a simulator aims to recreate the real life rules and behaviors of what it's simulating, and the beauty of it is that the user can enjoy them how they want to.

I tried the T-Cam or Roof Cam or HALO Cam a few times out of curiosity when driving without VR and i have no idea how people are able to drive that way, i feel completely disconnected from the car in any other view than cockpit when driving on a wheel.
