Vr has so many awesome uses apart from sim racing, I like to have a break from the track and dive into a good movie on porn hub vr.

Meh, to each their own. VR in AMS2 is a godsend to me. If VR ceased to exist, I would never go back to playing a race sim on flatscreen again. It would be like going from a ffb wheel to a keyboard. Again, to each their own.

Everyone prioritises different things and thats fine, but simracing in general is a bit different beast in gaming world. It´s a niche where the immersion most of the time stems from something else than latest and greatest graphical innovations. Someone with no interest in simracing would propably say rbr looks like a turd gone a through nuclear blast but for a passionate virtual gas sniffer the 2D dude holding a beer on one hand and some unrecognizable object on the other at the side of a stage means more than the fanciest of fancy. Personally I´m very fond of the animated cows at historic spa, I mean all the animated spectators, marshalls, choppers, planes, trains and whatever more there is, those are all cool but god dam those four legged ladies.

Name 1 simracing game that has ray tracing...
If a game has Ray tracing, you can use it in VR - This has nothing to do with the headset

Hint: The F1 games are not simulators....

I'm guessing you're younger than me, my 49 year old eyes can't see any pixels at all in VR (not sure that's a good thing but I'll take it).

Let's not act like it's the same as a monitor strapped to your face, it isn't it is TWO monitors strapped to your face, one for each eye, which is crucial for stereoscopic vision.

I can drive for hours in VR and know the value of depth perception, I saw it change my lap times and change my ability to race closer and cleaner.

If it doesn't work for you, that's a shame, genuinely, I feel bad for you, but trying to downplay the gravity of the difference it makes because you didn't like it is silly which is why the downvotes are flying.

I'm 60 and I can see pixels easily in my old Vive Pro (same res as index I think), but with Quest 3 they are barely noticeable but not all games are created equal anyway. For instance, AMS2 looks crystal clear in the Quest 3 but any unreal engine game does not. Star Wars Squadrons is crystal clear and sharp as are all my pinball games in VR on the quest 3, but any Unreal Engine based game.. yeah.. blurry by comparison or you have to ramp up pixel density so much they become unplayable at 90hz.

But VR isn't just about pixel density and its also not just about stereoscopic 3D visuals either, its about being connected to the experience and sometimes that's worth the sacrifice for some of us (but not in all cases, at least for me - see below). For example, I have been playing "Ride 4" in flat screen, VR (via UEVR) and also stereoscopic 3D on my 3DTV (via UEVR combined with vrto3D).

Each has its own plusses and minuses but I am consistently faster in VR as I just judge the apexes far better and WOW I think racing a bike in VR is the best VR experience one can have with your head inches from the curbs as you fly through the apex (first person view obviously). Ride 4 is an Unreal Engine game which is why I can convert it to both VR (via UEVR) and Stereoscopic 3D (via vrto3D), but it's a lot blurrier in VR than both flat screen and stereoscopic 3D on my 3DTV (typical of Unreal engine games tbh as other games can be crystal clear in VR), but the immersion just makes it so compelling for a bike racing game.

Having said that, I just play Assetto Corza Competizione on my 3DTV (vrto3D) because it looks stunningly sharp, I still get stereo vision and I am happy with 60hz/eye so can ramp everything up to Maximum whereas in VR the visual compromises just to get the thing to run nicely (90hz) aren't worth the bother.

UEVR injects VR mode into Unreal Engine (4 and 5) based games (DX11 and DX12). VRto3D allows you to run many VR games (not just UEVR converted ones) on a 3D device such as a 3DTV by mimicking a steamvr device and converting the VR output into TAB or SBS output without the lens warping which can be used by a 3DTV / AR glasses etc.

You experienced the best mirrors in VR, believe me. I wish all racing sim had that quality and dept perception LFS can provide in the mirrors.
Edit: btw, LFS is still great.

    wow.
Hard to believe the last dev update was May.

This is going to be a huge update. I have no doubt Reiza will deliver something great.

Try using the free Oculus tray tool. I have a quest pro and it's been a game changer for me and i use it on all my racing sims. For ams2 i have the profile set to --- super sampling 1.75 - ASW mode off CPU priority high - Audio conformation when profile is enabled on. You may need to adjust your super sampling to suit your system as i am running an RTX 4090 and i would also recommend setting the Visual HUD to performance so that you can see what affect your fine tuning has. I get a steady smooth 90fps and it looks almost like real life on AMS2. If you can get a smooth steady frame rate and adjust the strap so that it's no too tight, you should no longer get headache and maybe a fan if your too hot.

When the last dev update dropped we thought Red Bull still had BOTH WDC and WCC on lock, Joe Biden was still running for the US Presidency… hell, I lived in a completely different state. (If you’ve moved states in the US or countries in Europe, you know how crazy that whole experience is)

(Not saying this to complain, I’m just kind of gawking at how much has happened in the last 4 months.)

100% agree no way i would play on a screen after experiencing a well set up VR you just have to get it dialled in and the motion sickness is temporary and something i experienced until my brain eventually got used to it and i don't get it anymore - Again highly recommend the free Oculus tray tool.

In UK terms, the last dev update was approximately twelve Prime Ministers ago ;)

Thankfully, seems the wait won't be too long now, and we have a spicy McLaren x Red Bull battle to worry about

What fixes motion sickness in sim racing is CAMERA LOCK TO HORIZON, set to maximum or as max as possible. Keep using it until you become eventually comfy in the car and eventually able to have it set locked to the car instead. It will feel weird for a while how it moves but it solved any possible discomfort. Here is an example how it looks, on the right when camera lock is enabled, it makes it so your head only moves up and down when you in real life move your head. To me it is a must in Dirt Rally 2. Not because i suffer motion sickness (i do not at all), but because it is so much more comfy when a track has so many elevation changes.

Very interesting. I also love 3D. Before VR I played my games via 3D-Vision on a triple 3D-Monitor-combo.

It was a shock for me when over night all 3D TVs vanished worldwide. I still can’t understand why not a single company produces at least a single model when you can buy almost everything nowadays even if it’s a niche-product…
I still own a Samsung 3D TV but I never used it for gaming and I didn’t know about vrto3D…

I've got ACC performing to an acceptable level in VR with a Pimax Crystal running dynamic foveated rendering with the eye tracking. Though it's still not as clear as AMS2, which doesn't run the eye tracking. AMS2 in the daytime is very clear visuals and performance in a Crystal (not a cheap option, admittedly).
However, there's one area where ACC massively out performs AMS2 in VR. That's night time. AMS2 BR performance tanks at night for me, ruining Le Mans situations. I think this could be overcome with dynamic foveated rendering. Eye tracking is only available in a small number of headsets currently but sure to become more widely implemented down the line.

I just had a thought, you know what is something NO sim racing title has ? Educational material within the game to teach people how to drive. Why is that ?

Why can't there be a menu called "Sim Racing School" that would put you into scenarios that are like "safely overtake 1 AI driver within the next 5 corners", or another "Stay within track limits for 1 lap at Interlagos", but especially lessons that would teach people how to drive side-by-side i think are a must when there are so many hotlappers who once they go online they drive like they own the whole track with zero spatial awareness because they only know how to drive alone.

Heck, i would go as far as LOCK the Multiplayer option in the main menu until players would properly finish the Sim Racing School so that they show they know how to drive with others on the track. It would not be anything extreme, should take a maximum of 40 minutes to finish them and would be a list like:

    1. Finish sector 1 without leaving the track in 30 seconds
    2. Finish sector 1 and 2 without leaving the track in 60 seconds
    3. Finish 1 lap without leaving the track in 2 minutes
    4. Pass 1 opponent safely before the end of sector 2
    5. Pass 2 opponents safely before the end of sector 3
    6. Pass 3 opponents safely before the end of the lap
    7. Safely yield to the leader before the end of sector 2
    8. Safely yield to the leaders of the faster class through 1 lap
    9. Finish a 3 lap race in the Top 5 with a maxium of 1 track limit warning and without pushing opponents off the track (small car contact tolerated)
    10. Finish a 15 minute race in the Top 3 with a maxium of 3 track limit warnings and without crashing out any opponent (small car contact tolerated)
