what do you mean no sharpening? there is the option slider in the game to add sharpening once you enable dlss with the update 1.8 in acc, for me the image quality is about 90-95% the same with dlss as to when i would run just native 4k and i get smth like a 30-40% fps increase. in my book its a huge improvement.

if by "better" you mean crisper then i can agree with you.
also in terms of rain effects ams2 looks better, but for the rest i could not disagree more.
acc has much better textures, trackside detail, vegetation and lighting. also i would argue the car models look better than in every other serious sim.
what i would give you is to say that maybe the color palette is a bit on the 'gamey' side, its quite saturated by default. iracing and rf2 look a bit more 'realistic' in terms of colors.
but you do need a high end pc to run acc at all its epic settings, its to me the only way the game really shines graphically. it does not scale so well down. this can be a point of critique.

Fair point about the trackside objects and foliage.

If I ever manage to get an RTX card for a fair price maybe I can run ACC in all its glory!

True, except the horrendous texture pop-in on the trees as you get close to them, even with everything pretty much maxed out. No amount of tinkering with LOD/texture settings can remedy this and I find it really distracting and ugly.

No it is not DLSS, they are too different technologies. DLSS is AI driven and only available on 20 and 30 series cards. It also requires more involvement from the devs to implement. The end result is overall a bigger improvement in performance and image quality, but it's scope is limited.

NIS is much closer to FSR and has only just been made available in the 10 days or so, and is available on a much larger number of nvidia GPUs you just have to enable it in the control panel. You can get a nice fps boost whilst retaining excellent image quality. Anyway just google nvidia NIS.

Also I've explained how to enable it in more detail here.

Okay, I just realised it was the resolution scale I used to put up to about 140 - 150% prior to dlss and the clarity was perfect but as you would guess it affected fps quote a lot. The new dlss implementation disables that setting as you would expect. The sharpening seems to introduce funny textures if you crank it up too high and it just looks odd then.

Any word on when the update is planned to drop? I had it in my head that it was arriving yesterday.

Also if this is true it would suggest the update won't be until tomorrow

on the subject of all this upscaling and stuff, I've been trying to get Nvidia upscaling to work with AMS2, but it seems its not supported, or is there a way to make it work i've yet to discover I wonder?

    Oh yes, very well spotted!

Now if you wouldn't mind having a look at the unsolved Whitechapel Murders...I think you'll wrap up the case by Monday.

Still some bugs to iron out. When it's done it's released. :)

Did you turn beta/experimental features on in Nvidia Experience? AMS2 isn't supported in experience yet so you need to open the Nvidia control panel and add custom settings for a program (and point at the AMS2 AVX.exe) then turn on the upscaling. tick the box to have it show if NIS is upscaling and sharpening. Set the sharpening amount. Save
Return to game, make sure it's full screen and one of the upscaling resolutions

NIS should show as green/blue on the top left corner

Although to be extra weird, it's not mentioned on the article given as a source: Nine New Games Add DLSS For Improved Anti-Aliasing and Performance on GeForce RTX GPUs

Dlss is pretty hopeless in acc so I wouldn't get your hopes up for it
