Me to if it meant the audio was fixed and the popping, clicking crackle was gone.

 

That was the hype going from 20- to 30-series... In the real world there's hardly ever double the performance over a single generation.
In the end it's really down to value, most people will be served best @ 250-ish bucks or below, unless 144+ frames and/or high resolutions are of importance.
Steam has a nice list on market share of GPU's... Wouldn't be a bit surprised if the 1060 was still going strong.
Pricing seems to slowly fall back to "normal", SLOWLY.... But the value proposition was horrible for the longest time.
I'd have stuck with a 2080 if I had one, skip an entire generation, bit I've a 5700xt, and I'm still skipping current generation.
For their own sake people need to stop drooling and nerding out over teased next-gen GPU tech, and the market very desperately needs another big player, which we were told was going to burst onto the scene years ago at this point.

But enough of me abducting the thread here...

 

I'm sure it will be 100% better at some very specific benchmark lol but not general gaming.

Tbh, I'd upgrade if the 4080 is 20% faster than the 3080 though. The 2080 being such a small leap from the 1080ti while also being so expensive resulted in many of us being stuck with it until now.

The 1080ti was great, if not for recent events, the 3080 could've been on the same level.

 

There is currently no game I can't run maxed out with 175hz/fps on a 32" MSI Optix with my GTX 3070Ti and i7-12700KF
And give the current inflation and on going production chain shortness... that GTX 4090 will come at the price of a subcompact car.

 

This is what they leave out when raving about VR lol...it is the only reason I bought the 1080ti when it came out and also why I bought a 3080 recently (and would still consider a 4080).

VR can be an expensive habit .

 

Also, AMS2 is so good in VR (as was PC2 before it) that I want to experience it someday with no compromises (close, but we're not there yet).

Resolution, frame rate, graphics in VR is like performance, cost and dependability for a car. Easy to get 2 but all 3...

 

That's why I said I will buy "if" it is a 100% uplift".

 

I made the jump from 1080Ti to 3080 and it was gaming on another level for me, what with being able to G-Sync now in surround and getting 125+ fps in AMS2 and rF2 was eye opening. Sadly now after months im used to it and it just feels normal now.

 

Incredible,what the human brain can do.
After your next upgrade you will have the same effect.

 

It's the same with cars, that sensation for the 50hp plus with the new car fades away very quickly.

 

Just wanna correct myself, this is the Mclaren LM, which has a lower top speed, so this is actually about right for this car. My mistake!
