I didn't think they had enough depth back then to be considered sims. The graphics were amazing, lol

One of the first games I played with a FFB wheel was not even considered a racing game, but had a very decent driving behaviour was Interstate '76. After that came "Driver", "CollinMcRae Rally 2" and "Viper Racing". Nothing topped GPL back then.

My first racing game was "Grand Prix Circuit" for the Mac, in 1989. It was in black and white. He's a screen shot of a lap at Jacarepagua:

Lol, on the contrary Back then, ANY simulation was considered hardcore state of the art for its target audience, because it was.

Did you stop for at least 10 seconds to think at what state technology was in 1985 ?? By 1988 you had full on hardcore flight simulators. And by 1989 you had the revolution of Indianapolis 500. That was as in-depth as games were able to do back then, so this absolutely was considered peak simulation of it's time. Just like today's sims will be considered archaic in 40 years from now.

The best thing is, you can drive the same combo today in AMS2, it's even in colour :)

To think what was simulated was the current season when this game came out, and yet in 2023, current gen sims in 2023 still feature some of the same content.

Regarding recent historical circuits (Cascais and Jerez 1988), will they be added to the predefined championships that are present in the game?
Speaking of championship mode, there hasn't been any improvement for a while. What about backups of custom championship models (the championships that we create should be able to be kept to be replayed), custom championship sharing, an extension of the points tables to be as close as possible to the reality, (note that the distribution of points does not work for the multi class). It could also be added a short video presentation of the race (like F1 games) to make it less austere.
The 2022 stockcar championship includes Velopark 3 times in a row, which seems to be wrong.
With no career mode at the moment, it would be nice if the custom championship mode got some love in the future.
This reminds me that it was a question of having a tire allocation per race weekend...

There was Sports Car GT, which was considered a "sim-lite" compared to GPL. Later turned into F1 Challenge 99-02 and eventually rFactor.

1988 Jacarepagua is still one of my favorite tracks in AMS2, especially with Formula Classics Gen 1 & 2! :)

All the championships need a overhaul TBH. Hopefully that comes in time.

I tried asking in the mods thread, I'll ask again here...

Are screenshots of mods not to be shared, or are they allowed but the links to find the mods are disallowed...?

My first 'digital' racing racing experience - Auto Racing on the Intellivision System. 1980, 43 years ago, how depressing!

The next big one for me was Pitstop 2: split screen 2 player, tyre wear, fuel, and pitstops (not surprising considering its name) - 1984, amazing.
