I wouldn't say that unfortunately i did because it is the ONLY modern Nascar experience that has VR support, laser-scanned tracks, modern rules, all the jazz, but the pricing model after two years of playing eventually burned me out because it pushed the feeling "If i ain't playing it as often as possible then i am wasting money with the subscription that will eventually run out, or i have to shell out even more money again" and me just not enjoying online racing much anymore, or only very few times a week.

    Ok peace Mark.
    Not worth going on.
    I guess you are right.

One thing I hard learned after 2 children is to just "let it be".
I probably just lost a good chunk of time making 4 videos.
    Anyhow all good!

A funny—if curious—epitaph, given that it only serves to memorialize an individual’s ignorance while dismissing any criticism of iRacing (in this case, at least) as irrelevant.

Not to stoke the fire any further, but what people were saying is that they simply want non-accelerated, shorter intervals of weather. Like, 10 minutes of rain during a 1h race without the track turning into a water park by the end of those 10 minutes. Now obviously, with AMS2's current weather slot implementation this isn't possible, but that was the point they were trying to make.

Regardless, this debate has derailed into a national news-worthy trainwreck. Let's just leave it be and continue discussing how GT3's @ Monza is the best thing to ever exist since sliced bread.

I couldn't put it any more simple than this.
And after those 10 minutes, without the track drying up in 6x pace.

Better to not stoke, but you just did...!?! And since your comment is misleading, I will reply (much to the delight of some here, I am sure).

Although not 10 minutes precisely, you can easily get 15 minutes (+/- a few minutes of randomization) of rain in a one hour session, in whichever quarter of the hour you prefer, and, it is the appropriate amount of rain for the time period, not the equivalent of one hour of rain.

What options are you using that creates a waterpark level of rain in one quarter of an hour?

All I can say at this point is that iRacing saved themselves a lot of headaches by eliminating all but real time weather options in their sim. Is anyone over there begging to have the missing acceleration options? All I see is people saying few will want to ever use rain because of the risk to safety ratings :(

Sounds a bit like how one closed congregation does evaluate another congregation. Very biased.
If iRacing just had a reasonable tire model like as example rF2, AMS1/2 and say ACC then I would gladly reopen my former 5+ years membership again. But they dont (IMO).
Because there is probably no single racing game where you can be reasonable certain that the other drivers on track take it serious. Yeah beside the few idiotic wreckers you can also meet inside iRacing.
Most other MP racing games does only offer more or less casual 5 laps/10 min races.
Hehe without even 5min practice and/or 2-3 laps qual.
But games like rF2, AMS1/2 and ACC can be pretty satisfied the car feeling (TM) in iRacing are so lousy.;)

ByTheWay: Im absolutely no millionare but I consider just the price level in iRacing as something that force people to make some priorities. I mean if virtual racing is considered a hobby then like most hobbies you have to pay something. Hehe yeah yeah I know a few "hobbies" that are for free:p

This... this guy literally used the scientific method to show the difference between sync to race and real time:

You can clearly see in the S2R videos the increased degree of wetness - undoubtedly there is acceleration in the wetting/drying of the track when S2R is used. Yes, he uses two laps and we know that's unrealistic, but acceleration is nevertheless present for S2R. Which means - and correct me if I'm wrong about how the weather system functions - that any S2R weather configuration where the weather slot is not equal to 1 hour (i.e. the default), will involve a certain degree of acceleration. A one hour race for example, split into 4 slots (i.e. 15 mins per, give or take), will accelerate each slot by a manner of 4x, is that not right?

But you have to understand the argument wasn't about getting "close to real life" with the S2R weather configurations - I understand S2R on (relatively) longer races works as if it was real time, and you won't notice the difference in wetting/drying. People simply want the default wetting/drying times - as it would occur if the weather slot was the default 1 hour - for shorter intervals of time. They want a one lap of rain without everything getting to 100% wetness.

Which, to my understanding, is simply not possible at this time in AMS2. Please correct me if any of my assumptions are incorrect, but the wetting/drying acceleration is exactly what those videos show.

I've been watching this for a while, but now I will try to explain in the best way I can think of.
What people are trying to explain to you is that, if you accelerate weather by 4x for example, when it begins to rain, the amount of water on the track will increase 4 times faster than usual, and when the rain stops, the the track will dry out 4 times faster than usual too, that is, the track conditions change 4x faster than usual, in sync with the weather. What people are saying is that they want the option of accelerating only the weather, not the track state.

You missed my post above: Automobilista 2 V1.5.5.0, Le Mans & Endurance Pack Pt1 RELEASED - Now Updated to V1.5.5.6

No, four slots in an hour does not accelerate everything by 4x, but yes, any amount less than an hour involves some form of effective acceleration (compression, really). Picking unrealistically short session will result in more of this effect, but still, one rain slot out of four results in a normal amount of rain for that time period--even if sync to race is picked.

If you want exactly one lap of rain only (why, I have no idea), the only way to do that is to pick a race length of four laps and use four weather slots with only one as rain. That was already discussed further above as I did the experiment twice to confirm that a normal amount of rain falls and it does not magically sync to the start/finish line. There is a degree of randomization as to when the rain starts and stops.

But if people don't want acceleration, then use real time. That's what that selection is for--realistic, not accelerated (or compressed) weather. In real life, the weather doesn't change randomly and dramatically every 15 minutes. You can get changes that frequently on rare occasions, but it will be a transition, not thunderstorm followed by 100% sun followed by heavy fog followed by clear with light clouds--even though we can pick that in the game. If I pick that ridiculous combination just described, does it really matter if some part of the track drying process is accelerated? Maybe, but not to me.

I like the perseverance of some people here. Having already dealt with this guy, you will certainly get a contemptuous response. Don't waste your time because even if you are right, he is unable to admit that he is wrong maybe.

I'll test if a wet track at session start dry slower in clear sky than a wet track going from thunderstorm to clear sky in two laps. This will solve a lot of questions and maybe point some direcions for people not full stupid.

iRaining Is the new topic on simracing community...it seems so at least....

If I should be honest I found the latest pages of this topic entertaining at first... interesting in some parts...boring as hell at the end....

The main thing the simracing community forgets is:

    - if sim X releases Y feature
    - doesn't mean sim Z corresponding one is bad or should be "fixed" to match sim X one

Every game has strengths and lows but if I should judge the overall package I still prefer AMS2...no subscription, no need to pay for single car, lot of racing series to play with, etc etc

Rain in AMS2 is engaging enough to keep you on track and end a stint with a big grin in your face after a race without spinning/crashing due the weather changes....

...so...is still worth spending so much time talking in circle about iRaining compared to AMS2 and vice versa?

As side note: I remember a slightly delay between puddles (forming/evaporating) and visible rain due time acceleration...probably was fixed and I missed that but could explain what you guys saw on track during your tests....

That is a reasonable request, though one I would personally make low priority since it's just fiddling with various degrees of unrealistic options (and I am not in charge of anything, so no need to be concerned). And, yes, I am well aware of what happens when you pick Accelerated weather. It gets accelerated.

To do what is asked raises the question how would you separate the track state from the rest of the timing in the sim? I'm guessing SMS would have provided these more granular options (and things like ability to jump to any point in a replay) if it wasn't a complete coding nightmare that could break important elements of the simulation itself.

But, the amount of water on the track does not increase four times faster than normal unless you purposely pick extreme settings to accelerate the sim. All I am saying is that if these acceleration issues are so unbelievably important and annoying (as they seem to be), why is anyone using acceleration in the first place? Let's all pretend we are using the vaunted and expensive iRacing and restrict ourselves to only realistic/non-accelerated settings ;)

Is it really that limiting to have four slots that you can put whatever weather you want in to, scale them to a reasonable session length if necessary, AND get plausible levels of moisture (in any of one, two, three or four of those divisions)? What exactly is the value add of weather acceleration for any purpose even remotely related to a racing sim?

Tested just now. Two laps race, thunderstorm to clear sky sync in two laps.

The track dries at the EXACTLY SAME PACE as starting a race in wet track with clear sky.

LiveTrack 3.0 don't use any kind of "accelerated" track conditions change, but users can make a crazy thunderstorm that start and ends in one minute, soaking all track ASAP, and blame LiveTrack 3.0 for the outcome...

Will post later a video, and people that is really stupid can keep going against facts. It's funny, as usual!

Slightly, yes. It gets more limiting the longer the race is, and especially with the recent focus on endurance racing, 4 slots is quite low. But I'll concede that it works fine for now.

Also I agree, weather acceleration is more of a pain in the ass than anything - at least, it is in combination with the fixed 1h weather slots. The actual crux of the issue is the fixed 1h slots - which the weather progression tries to "fix" in the same hacky way that's characteristic of SMS programming.

My particular gripe with this is that maybe I want a slight drizzle in a race, something like 10 minutes in a 1 hour race. You know - it's cloudy, it drizzles a bit, but never turns into full rain. Not enough to warrant a change to wet tyres, but enough to cool the track and spice up the racing.

Yet... I can't. Because the weather slots are 1h. So I have to use S2R. Which compresses the weather. Which means I get 1 hours' worth of light rain in 15 minutes, instead of... 15 minutes of light rain. Which means a trip to the pits the instant it starts raining because that **** turns to ice on slicks. Even though it's supposed to be 15 minutes of a drizzle.

But oh well, not much that can be done - and the weather system is already pretty good as it is. I'm done with this topic and peacing out. There's already been enough squabbling about this.

    LiveTrack 3.0 don't do this.
