Hey, does anyone think that Daytona at night is way too bright? Like headlights are entirely unnecessary?

well I could have sworn when the first update in this new cycle landed a couple of days ago, the two new cars were of a different shape (and Mfr).

The cool thing about the Ligier JS2 R is the encouragement I get from the car in front when I start last:

I agree that I don't need headlights to make it around Daytona at night, but I disagree that this is unrealistic. I haven't been to Daytona, but I've been to a sports stadium in the USA at night, and it's brighter than an emergency room operating table. They're called floodlights for a reason ;)

Now that Micro OLED VR headsets are getting back in fashion, if Valve at some point makes SteamVR HDR compatible, maybe we then can add a feature request for Reiza to add HDR support and do a nightlight recalibration in AMS2. But at the moment I don't see this as necessary.

For non-VR usage Windows 11 Auto-HDR does a decent job right now (obviously not as good as a properly authored HDR implementation)

I guess you are using the NAMeS-mod? The game favours cars with custom files in the background. I had the same issue when the Aston Martins and Alpines were released but the AI did not use them.

Time to get a new NAMeS-version ;) @john Ellis already delivered (great job my friend!): NAMeS: Real Drivers for AMS2

Thanks Reiza! I've a question, With these updates to multiplayer and the simulator itself, has the sms_stats_data.json file had any changes? more information? less information? variation in any data that affects the reading to extract results?

This is one of the reasons Renato continually wins my support.

Yeah, racing is challenging. You must work hard and with patience to improve. My opinion, but I think AMS2 has made me a more skilled racer.

The json format and data is the same as always, but the data present in the results array of the final race positions is more reliable now, and matches what the users see in the AMS2 final race positions screen. So theres no need to do workarounds anymore for getting the race results.

If you find any issues or have further queries about it, it please report in Multiplayer Logs & Reports Thread

Just updated yesterday, and it seems like a whole new game. The handling feels more realistic and the AI cars no longer try to drive you into the wall when you pass on the outside.

Why is there such a big difference in grip feeling between LMp2 and the new Ligier prototype (which looks great)?

Raced with a friend last evening and we had a blast with how AMS2 now feels. Some quick notes:
    • Formula Vee Gen2 is really fun to drive. You really have to rotate them carefully via braking and be very gentle at the steering to not lose grip on fast corners. It takes a while to get used to it, but it feels so rewarding once you get some clean laps done. The attention to detail on these, down to seeing the weld seams in the cockpit, is beatiful
    • We thought about which car usally killed us easily before the update and chose 2023 Indycars. Wow, this is really a great class to feel the aero change. You can finally push these cars with confidence. They still are beasts on throttle application, but it's really managable and short shifting helps a lot on slow corners.
    • We also drove GT3G2 on Spa and VIR and it's just so much fun. Especially trailbraking into the hairpin on VIR feels so good now, you don't have to fear to spin out. If you really push too far you would more likely go too wide and correct to get back to a good line, which makes pushing much more fun since the risk is lower.
    • It also feels like being in the dirt with a tire isn't as punishing anymore, but could be a coincidence
    • The AI in multiplayer got the same great upgrades as in singleplayer. Contact isn't as punishing for a player and the AI doesn't get stuck in your door in corners anymore. On GT3s we set them to 113 and they felt so human with how they attacked, defended and made mistakes. Only minor visual issue still appearing is that AI for player joined as clients often appear to drive a bit rotated sideways instead of the car being positioned straigth as it should be.
The simple answer is that a sims will have to simplify physics since it's supposed to run on a regular pc in realtime while also processing tons of other stuff without stuttering. You could get the best high end system to simulate only aero and it still won't be 100% accurate to real life. So you are limited how much system load you want to put aside for physics, or at least find the sweetspot between accuracy and performance. Compared to games that focus on very few classes AMS2 features so many different classes that it is actually astonishing how good und different each car feels, even within the same class. There are tons of different parameters affecting how your car handles. We as players can only describe what we feel when racing, it's amazing they can still nail that down to what to adjust to find more improvements

LMP2 looks to have more advanced aero plus tires make a big, big difference.
JS P4 should be a significantly harder compound from what I could gather.

Personally I find the P4 to be a very endearing car and it does wonders to keep you honest...

Edit: Compound may help explain why it's also not always the easiest car to get tire temps in their optimum window... Which will only add to a sense of decreased grip and traction.

Has anyone tested the Porsche Carrera Cup? I feel like this car handles the same as before the latest patch. Could it be possible that cars like this still need further adjustment on that aero thing?

I have also tested Group C, which are my favourite cars of the sim, and they are really planted now and handle very well IMO.
