It really seems like another good step up of the already great AI. Watching the top 3 fighting for positions felt so natural in this video, it also looks like they don't build bumper-to-bumper trains as often but use more width of the track to get side by side.

Just look at how much they spread out on Kemmel straigth in the first lap .

Can't wait to race against them!

We need 2 or 3 modes in the V10 Gen 2 ... This class is gold with F1 Hitech.

Nice showcase of the game/ai. However, I feel like the AI could block the inside more often or drive more in the middle of the track when defending from the overtaking car.

Would be even cooler if, a V10 Gen 3 was based of the 2005 cars!

But they do that already. Here is them driving there in the 93 version.

Indeed seeing it in the video it still happens way too rarely. Should happen like 5 times more often. defending from the player and each other. But when defending AI vs AI, instead of always yielding they should switch to the far other side of the track and still try holding it there.

This and there are also corners like Tosa (Turn 7) at Imola where AI cars always stay at the outside. That's a bit of a shame. But I'm already very happy with AMS 2's AI. They give you very good race action because they don't give up, make mistakes, fight each other and can handle slower traffic.

My biggest criticism of the AI always was that they do not fight against each other anywhere near enough as they should. Approaching a slow corner they will draft, peak to the side, then yield right back for several laps in a row not even attempting a side by side against each other. I made a video showing that AI vs Player is some of the best, but with AI being too hesitant to do much against each other it felt like i was always making more passes on them than they ever done on each other no matter what settings were used.

From your experience, does it vary much with the aggression setting? (Curiosity)

Will this release arrive in October as originally announced?

The focus right now seems definitely to be on endurance. Personally, I'm still hoping for the addition of the new 2025 Brazilian stock cars, but I don't think it will happen any time soon.

As for more F1 stuff, I'd love to see the 1981-1982 cars added. These two seasons are always neglected and I don't understand why. 1981 was one of the greatest seasons ever.

That said, I'm always happy to read that the AI is being refined. It's much better than it used to be, but there's always room for improvement.

In the video, I think the AI's overtaking skills have subtly improved, they do seem to more naturally race and even made a few authentic unforced errors. Definitely an improvement.

However, the main issue I have with the AI is they still run too closely to each other. First few laps there's about 5 cars pretty much nose to tail. It does mean they overtake more often and perhaps if they increased the field spread they couldn't overtake at all, but for me it's immersion breaking to see them run so closely.

Perhaps the Spa circuit will bunch up the field given the slip streaming effect of the long straights, but I'd still like to see the AI creating a more natural gap between the cars, even if it does mean overtaking is less frequent.

In general though, really good to see Reiza is still working on AI improvements, looking forward to trying it out!

I totally agree, the way they drive "inside the gearbox" of the car in front during corners is completely unrealistic, specially for cars that depend so much on downforce.

Having the AI doing less overtakes is not a bad thing IMO, specially because overtaking in F1 is actually pretty hard, with only 1-2 overtaking spots per track and usually after a long straight.

They should increase the dirty air effect for AI so they could not stay so close to the car in front without understeering out of the track.

Ai has been good but would like them to chase the draft of the player like they do with each other, especially on long straights like at Spa or Le Mans

Yes, if there is a way for Reiza to increase the dirty air effect so the cars are more spread out, then I think the AI would be more authentic.

On a more positive note (and there are a number of positives), I think the AI seems more aware in side-by-side racing. The player passed an AI into Eau Rouge and the AI yielded, which is an improvement.

Yeah it definitely looks like a marked improvement overall but I still see this weird grouped train-forming behaviour going on.

I think part of the problem is they can run so close to one-another that they almost block themselves from being able to make moves because they're too close so there's no way of braking late or simply carrying more momentum into and through a corner, because they're already huffing the exhaust fumes of the car ahead. There's not enough space for them to build or maintain momentum on the way into a corner.

I'd definitely like to see a bit more dynamic lateral movement and positioning from the AI when chasing a car, and when defending, they still seem somewhat static in that regard. Like, I know in current patch they will move over and defend if you clearly place yourself to the inside, but they're still way too easy to lunge on. I feel like if you're close enough to mount an attack they should defend more aggressively in general, moving to the inside BEFORE BRAKING (They currently have a habit of suddenly moving in the braking zone, usually when attacking other AI. Leading to my outbreaking manoeuvrer ending in a smash, because I'm already braking to my limit when they suddenly move in front of me...) to prevent a lunge, or making a jink to the inside in anticipation of an attack before returning to the racing line.

And when chasing it'd be great to see them moving around more, trying to take more aggressive lines to get alongside before the apex, or just trying to get in your (or another AI's) mirrors before a braking zone (Nice to hear they're more likely to make mistakes when pressed now, though).
If they positioned themselves more aggressively when battling in general, not only with the player but with each other, it might actually dynamically solve these weird grouped trains, because they'll actually slow each other down more when battling which will either give other AI a chance to pass, or ones further behind could catch up.

That and, as other have said, make dirty air affect them more so they NEED to drop back after a while of following another car to recuperate and have another try in a lap or 2.

But overall the video looks like there are plenty of improvements, so I'm keen to get my hands on the update and give the AI a thorough testing myself.

    Edit: **Seeing as we're getting a bunch of 2005 tracks... Formula V10 Gen3 (2005) when? :p**

Agree, I hope they tweak the dirty air too, the more aero dependent the F1 car is, the bigger aero washout effect should be on medium to high speed turns (maybe also increasing front tire wear for cars that stick too close on the car in front too, don’t know if it’s easily simulated though).

Don't expect everything to be resolved and AI perfect. It's a decent and noticeable step in the right direction but there's still plenty of room for improvements left. One step at a time folks :)

I know renato was not a fan of adaptive AI. Could we might see some integration of that in the futur.
