Automobilista 2 V1.6.9.8 is Now Live! The new update is packed with exciting new content and features, including the two world-championship winning Renault R25 & R26, free for all users to enjoy.

IMPORTANT: As mentioned in the latest Dev Update, imminent licensing restrictions might result in some official F1 cars getting removed for new purchases of the game in the near feature, including these latest Renault cars that are just been added to the game with this update; we remind all users that if you already have AMS2, the content you own today or come to own at any point from now until such measure is implemented will not be impacted - they will remain part of your Automobilista 2 installation.

The latest update is not all about the formulas, as the various gameplay improvements should alo lead to more compelling & realistic Endurance races as well - just in time for this weekend´s Le Mans 24h!

Along with V1.6.9.8 comes two new DLC items with the new Historic Track Pack Pt4 featuring Grade 1 tracks from 2000´s era, and the Hungaroring; as is AMS2 tradition, the new DLCs will be free for all users to enjoy during these first few days from release.
    image (16).jpg

V1.6.9.8 includes some new modding resources as covered in Pt2 of the June Dev Update; more information as to how best use these resources is to follow shortly.

Users who for whatever reason encounter issues with the new V1.6.9.8 upon release or who might have an imminent league race to run may still remain on the previous V1.6.9.5 by right-clicking on AMS2 in the Steam library -> Properties -> Beta and selecting the previousbuild branch.

Amazing job as usual. Alonso is my chilhood hero, I understand better now what Brazilian legends pack meant to Brazilians:). Thanks for the QoL features such as the scalars. It opens a whole new world of possibilities for modders. Your attention to that kind of detail is what makes you different from other developers out there. You build an all-time classic sim, not yet another game that is rapidly abandoned and forgotten as most modern titles.

The Renault R25 tested at Monza 2005—what a pleasure to drive! What a great job! Thank you very much, Reiza.

By the way, they aren't set up for time trial, are they?

Now, i will try at Imola 2005 :)

    And now Hungaroring :)

What a great job on the new cars/classes! Driven a few of them around the Hungaroring and had instant Alonso/Button 2006 memories. Now to balance racing with watching the 24h.. :)

Edit: And bravo on the sounds, the new cars sound fantastic!

Amazing work thank you for the new UI with more information and helpful fuel consumption information well streamlined into the already existing concept.

Parallax Occlusion Quality performance setting is quite interesting, I've been maxing out anisotropic filtering, high quality texture filtering, clamping texture filtering etc on nvidia panel, basically going for any and every option I can to add more definition to flat textures to make them "pop".

I ran out of time to update the help text for that. For everyones info I'm reliably informed that

Low: Enables the system providing the effects and perception of real geometry
Medium: Increases the sample count (more detail) and adds simple hard shadows and lighting effects
High: Further Increases the sample count and adds in soft shadows

Our expectation is for the moment the sample count won't be too visible because the tyre geometry isn't really complex enough to make it visible but that will become more apparent if/when the technique is applied to other things in the game

Was there meant to be standing water again in the game ?
I got a raging thunderstorm going on for 5 minutes and there is nothing.

The grip that the R25 has around the hungaroring (with low TC and medium rubber no less) is ridiculous! Sound is amazing too!

Thanks Reiza, for putting this out for the weekend!

Looking forward to driving the Stockcars, my favourites.
I don't see the Historic Trackpack 4 in the DLC-List on Steam though,
    am I missing something?

@Dave Stephenson alluded to it, but to be specific the new parallax occlusion effect only applies to the tyres at the moment. It'll be most noticeable on complicated tread patterns like the wets or intermediates when viewed from glancing angles (cockpit and side-on views). On the tyre specifically, the effect fades out when the tyre becomes blurred when moving at speed. Think of it like testing out or demonstrating the tech :D
