That is one of favoritest cars in sim racing. I am over the moon that it's in AMS2 and that is modeled so well. And the sound of that V8.

The comment is not really directed at you. We disagree about minor vs major. No big deal. Maybe I overreacted, but I just got really tired of the negativity over the delayed update. I'm just trying to get people to understand the perspective that Reiza has shown dogged dedication to its players in a world where many companies could care less.

    I'm done with this, though.

This guy does amazing VR reviews.

Seems like the worst offender are headlights in night races, and it gets worse the more cars you add to a grid. Maybe it's something that Reiza could look at (optimizing car headlights so the performance hit isn't that high?

Wow, what a directly useful YT site for all us sim racers!

And in terms of the headlights, pretty sure Reiza has known about this for many years, but it would require a rewrite of the Madness Engine shadow and reflection graphics to resolve...which is why that hasn't occurred. We have the ability to limit the number of opponent vehicles shown as a work-around.

Yep this guy runs circles around mainstream reviewers in terms of VR performance analysis. Regarding AMS2, since we can limit the amount of visible AI cars, maybe there could be an option where only the closest AI cars draw their headlights and shadows? And that could save performance?

I think we need to wait for V1.7 for something like that

I'm sure it's not something immediate, just proposing it as a possible performance band aid at some point (even if the shadow rework doesn't make it).

I actually only lose fps during sunset or sunrise, but when it is completely night performance is similar to day

You must be new around here :)

This has been known and stated and asked for for ages. Nothing new here. Asked for seperate setting to change cars rendered behind player (frankly dont care how many are rendered in front, it has insignificant impact on my night racing in VR) which was stated as coming in next update.. 3 updates ago. Luckily they did change the basic setting to have more emphasis on rendering more cars in front than behind I believe which has helped.

It's more relevant than ever with the increased grid size. And regardless of anecdotal evidence, this guy is showing very specific scenarios and hard numbers. I fail to see anything before where people said anything other than 'night races or rain races' are heavy on VR. I'm sorry but this level of VR simracing benchmarking is not old news, please provide links to actual videos showing this level of detail.

Its been stated over and over about headlights and cars behind. These scenarios have been explained over and over. Who wants to go watch a video when its all been described previously? Maybe thats why you missed it.. too busy watching youtubers. Sorry if this sounds harsh but I found your response to be just as inflammatory.

Seriously? Great suggestion.. but you missed it by about 18 months!!!! quod erat demonstrandum

And just to be clear.. Yeah, its great to see people taking enough interest in VR to create content and benchmarks.. All good there. I was just addressing the fact that your "resultant suggestion" has already been requested many many many times over a very long period. And we are still frustrated by it.

    Let’s get real

others sims manage this headlights impact better read less effect on fps so there should be a way to minimize that impact

reducing visible cars amount didn’t do much in my user experience

And are some worse. Look at EA WRC. When headlights are turned on fps are halved.

Bazza knows what he's talking about. He begged for this to be addressed all through the 1.5 cycle and was given hope that this would be looked at for the 1.6 update. Unfortunately, it didn't work out, but not for lack of trying on the devs side. Deciding which cars are in front and behind is not as easy as it sounds, and what we got was what we got, which unfortunately didn't solve the VR issue.

We live with what Madness gives us. Hopefully in the future they can find the magic to solve this for VR users.

It’s not a VR only issue, headlights give big fps hit also on monitor, especially from cars behind you. This is also in daylight if there is rain and AI opponents that enable headlights in those conditions. Mine got halved when I was testing this yesterday (from 100-140
    FPS to 55-60 FPS)

Hopefully this can be improved one day, because it’s by far the biggest performance issue that is not obvious bug

Exactly. And instead of an arbitrary "Max visible cars" there should be an exact setting that says "Number of rendered cars behind player" so i can set 4 or maybe 5 and then a separate "Number of rendered cars ahead of player" regardless of distance away, 20 is enough.
Or even a separate max number of headlights rendered.

    Totally agree

I posted also in the VR thread because users suggest it will be ok to simrace in perfect blue sky condition only lol so we don’t have performance issues

where the heck immersion would be gone then???
    Especially in VR…..

Using lower reflection settings helps mitigate performance loss in these conditions.

Exactly, my FPS is also halved when I drive on monitor with night/rainy conditions (i7-14700K/4070/32GB).
