Not sure if anyone can help seem to keep getting stuttering in VR multiplayer races in VR if the grid size is approximately larger the 14 ish. Single player races with max players no problems.
Checked FPS and this does drop unless the stuttering occurs then FPS in headset drops but only in larger multiplayer lobbys.

Like patch above didn't seem to notice prior to patch.

If you have Valve Index and experience micro stutters and bad performance in the rain and night conditions, instead of running Index at 80 Hz to squeeze more performance, try setting it up to 120 or even 144 Hz, and force the motion smoothing always on. You get effectively the load of 60 or 72 fps but especially at 144 Hz / 72 fps artifacts aren't that bad anymore compared to stutters or artifacts at 80 / 40 fps.

(And forcing it on prevents extra hiccups when the state would change between motion smoothing on and off.)

I take the no replies as nobody here playing with a cheapo VR headset solution?

I think you may be in a small group certainly, but it's still interesting to find solutions to problems.

Yes it looks like as I am not getting much traction on other Sims forums

But I really thought more people would test such mobile phone VR Option therefore sharing their experiences before going with a proper headset

I think by the time they've got this deep into simracing they are past the point of no return. No amount of counselling or therapy can cure it, and many will have a decent rig to play on, so a full on VR headset at the price of a decent TV is one of the more value for money purchases they might make. Most of us are seated anyway, so the mobile/untethered units are less important to have. You may get some help on Reddit as that has a broader base, but keep in touch here, you never know.

If Nvidia was able to make GeForce Now work with wheels there would be a lot more people simracing with those headsets. Maybe Valve will solve the issue when they release their standalone headset?

A friend of mine is a console racer but he also has a Quest 2 and no desire for a gaming PC. He would be down for a streaming service though. I've heard the same from other console gamers I know. They already have the wheel and the games on PC are cheaper too...

    Hi everyone!

I've had this game since last week, and immediately went about trying to tweak it. I really think I just made performance worse, so have gone back to scratch, removed some of the files from here I've downloaded, and had Steam revalidate files. Going to stick with out of the box files until I get that running well before trying mods.

Can someone explain the relationship between Steam Super Sampling and in-game Super Sampling? Which one should I be increasing to maximize the clarity of my image?

Any way to see frame rate or frame timing in-game, or do I need something like fpsVR?

    9900K, 2080 Ti, 32GB RAM, HP Reverb G1

    Thanks!

Best way to start from scratch is to make sure the documents/automobilista 2 folder is deleted, that will reset your graphics and control settings back to default. I would say get used to the basic game out of the box first before starting with mods, but all the ones I've tried from Racedepartment for liveries have been fine.
I've tweaked mine so it runs about 250fps in 2D mode, so I get a nice smooth 90fps in VR

    Welcome and Quick answers.

    1. Use steam SS. In-game doesn’t do anything.
    2. Yes, fpsVR is a godsend when tuning.

I’ve posted a link to a doc a few times re: G2 settings which may help

They are basically the same but SteamVR SS gives you more finer control over the SS where you can maximize the clarity of the image. In some cases in game SS hasn't worked with some headsets from what I have read. You are better off using SteamVR SS and setting the in game SS to 1.0.

You can either use the SteamVR graph (advanced feature under SteamVR settings) to look at frame timing or it's better to use fpsVR to get more detailed info.

With a 2080Ti and Reverb G1 you probably want to be close the native resolution of the Reverb G1 in SteamVR (per eye resolution set close to 2160x2160) so you can maintain 90fps in all conditions depending on your in game graphic settings.

    Ingame-SS does nothing for me.
Best clarity is achieved by setting sharpening filter in ini-file…
Search for it there is description in a thread here.

If your having tracking issues with your G2 then your best bet is to sit in your rig and turn on the flash light app within the Mix Reality Portal. Now use your controller and look at the different light sources and see how washed out it might be through the tracking camera's. This will let you know if you need to turn off a light or a monitor.

Anyone know why AMS2 sometimes starts as something like “AMS2AVX” rather than the normal “Automobilista 2” within SteamVR?

I notice this when I run it in VR.... if you run in 2D then it's just the AMS2.exe

Thanks, Ive tried this but I dont think the screen is what gives me the tracking problems, I experience the same issue with the screen off as well in multiple sims.

Ive had the G2 since release and the performance has been all over the place.
It doesnt matter if its day or night. Lights on/off, screen on/off.
Ive tried an LED strip behind my screen, resetting position, clearing environment.
Nothing seems to really fix the issue and the headset will randomly work great for a few days and then just be an absolute headache.

Ive had a lot of connection issues as well which might be part of the problem. (AMD/x570)
Installed a PCIe card, got the new cable from HP cs. Tried connecting through USB-C directly to my 3080, but non of it seems to work consistently.

It can work fine for a few days and then in the middle of a race start drifting or give me a blue screen for a second before going back to normal, in situations where Im not experience framedrops or exceptional loads on CPU/GPU.

Morning folks... just another update on my relentless VR testing!

I did another 3hrs testing in AMS2 using CapFrameX to capture the performance under the same race conditions adjusting 1 variable at a time from a known baseline capture (I know, I'm sad!)... and concluded that the only out of game setting that now makes a difference is HAGS on or off (turn it off!). The rest, "Game Mode", Nvidia Control Panel settings (low latency, threaded optimsation etc.), steam/wmr beta or not, fpsVR running or not, rivatuner uninstalled or not, process lasso running or not, AMD CPU OC, Resizeable bar or not…. makes negligable difference (<2fps on average) with the latest build / win10 updates / nvidia drivers.

Note: I'm forcing motion smoothing OFF for these tests to try and get to 90fps. My countless hours of trying to get WMR Motion Vector/Smoothing to work consistently with a locked 45fps have been more than frustrating... so have concluded it's just bugged for now :/

In-game, dropping anisotropic filtering from 16x to 4x delivers about 15% FPS improvement… and turning bloom and post-processing effects off (didn’t really see any real diff on PP) reduces any spikes in low sunlight - which means I can run 90fps in dry ok at 100% SS @ 90fps with my G2. This with the sharpening trick in the graphicsconfigopenvrdx11.xml - set to 1.8 looks great

I also did more testing with FSR upscaling (with radius 0.3) and ended up not using it due to image degradation.
    - At 0.85 scaling, the cost of the GPU time for upscaling negates any gains in frame rendering time.
    - At 0.75 scaling, there are less frame spikes (so some gain), but image quality is noticeable less.

Still need the nightime optimisation doing (please please please @Renato Simioni) so headlights from cars behind don't totally kill the FPS.

I also noticed single core performance does seem to max out... so next investigation is to see if I can drive more single-core OC performance and see if that makes any difference.

    My new in-game settings:
    Performance
    - Texture resolution: High
    - Texture Filtering - Anisotropic 4x
    - V-SYNC - Yes
    - MSAA - Medium
    - Reflections - Medium
    - Environment Map - Medium
    - Car Detail - Ultra
    - Track Detail - Ultra
    - Pit Crew Detail - Player
    - Shadow Detail- Medium (shadows still have a bit hit!)
    - Enhanced Mirror - No
    - Motion Blur - Off
    - Render Frames Ahead - 1

    Visuals
    - Post-Processing Filters - Off
    - Exterior Sun Flare - Full
    - Interior Sun Fare - Full
    - Bloom - Off (Changed since last time!)
    - Heat Haze - Off
    - Exp Comp - 1 (default)
    - Rain drops - Yes
    - Vignette - No
    - Crepuscular Rays - Yes
    - Screen Dirt - Yes
    - Cockpit Mirrors - On

    Cheers
    Bobby Dazzler

V-Sync should be off in VR. Most screens have a 60Hz refresh rate, so that would limit your vr to 60fps and also cause for worse performance in general when using vr.

That's not how VR works - on a 60hz monitor it will lock to 60fps with Vsync on but the VR unit will happily run at its own refresh rate. Try it, doesn't make a difference.
