    I really enjoy ams 2, I love the variety of cars and tracks on offer, it's quite unique on that front and graphically its imo ahead of everything else. As far as the physics go and how close to reality the cars are I really can't say. Sadly I've never had the opportunity to drive for example GT1 LT or RSR. I can only compare what I see in game to track videos and onboards of these vehicles and a rough idea of how you would expect a certain class of car to behave. I feel like given how broad the variety of cars on offer is Reiza are doing quite a good job of making each class its own with reasonably believable characteristics. That said obviously there is still work to be done but, I think there has been clear steady progression in the right direction.

    The donuts thing though, and it feels kind of ridiculous that this has become a topic but, there is definitely something to it. I can see why people keep bringing it up. I find it impossible to light the rear tires up in a meaningful way. Not anything to the extent that should be possible.

    This should be absolutely possible no? I mean if we could light up the rears like this, we would be able to do actual donuts, what people have posted so far in that regard are definitely not donuts. Not that donuts mean anything in the grand scheme of things but it is one way of highlighting the issue.

    Now granted that is an 1100hp hill climbing time attack monster so not a fair comparison in a way, but we should still be able to induce a constant radius drift, which is seemingly impossible at the moment. I can get the tires to degrade super fast, I can loose the back end on power, I can induce a drift, but the car just 180s and when you try to pick it back up again or keep it pinned the engine bogs down. For me there's just something off there that maybe isn't about grip but how the power is delivered from a standstill. I feel like when your foot is to the floor from standing with no TC etc we are not getting the same kind of power delivery as you would in the real thing.

    Anyway like I said I love ams2. I'm not trying to **** on it at all. I just agree that something is not quite right there and needs looking at.

    Whatever the base setup is. I reset to default and then only moved TC to 0

    I can appreciate a good physics talk even if I am not the best one to give my opinions.

    I agree that the more recent cars are feeling very good but at some point the team needs to take a break from picking at them and look at the older cars. My boys the M1 and Mini JCW still understeer like pigs. The Copa Classics, Fusca, F-Truck and Hot Car tires still feel like they are on their old models when GT, Proto and Stock car tires have had quite a lot of updates.

    In terms of upcoming changes, I am quite curious to see how the engine and tire wear adjustments are gonna look like. If we are finally heading to mishifts causing issues more quickly, especially in dog boxes, then I am definitely gonna have to improve my game and work on the timing. xD

    Porsches are set up to be drivable without TC, and power understeer is exactly how a Porsche 911 reacts due to all of the modern 911 using Drexler 60/40 LSDs. The power understeer is a direct consequence of rear drive, rear center weight and diff lock. So, I guess AC does'nt do it right not vice versa. Regarding the Procars understeer, thats how it was designed.... in a time where chicanes were not a thing in its series. Everyone stating it has to much grip... has to realize the enourmous size of it's rear tyres. What I don't understand is, why we can have only soft tyres with the M1 and Group A, that is ahistorical..

    I should have been more specific hehe. Indeed the M1 is a naturally understeery car but the way it is right now is exaggerated. You can’t get it turned in. Setups help but it’s still not right. And don’t get me started on its default setup xD

    I thought earlier that Reiza would be adding more tire compounds as they got to know the Seta tire model. Maybe it is still the case and they will add more compounds when they come back to further work on the cars.

    I forget what defaults this one has, but many C-LSD cars in AMS2 have a very high power ramp. This will lead to inside tire fire and power understeer unless you really throw the car about. Similar to how open diff cars work on throttle. And other sims if you leave the power diff percent really low. I assume diff defaults will be reviewed. Either way you have to lower the power ramp. Lower it to the usual 60 (for example SRO GT3 have a fixed 60 power / 35 coast IIRC) at least. Maybe even lower.

    If you want more power-on oversteer with the Porsche GT3-R, increase diff preload and stiffen the rear springs and ARBs (+appropriate damper if possible)

    If it makes so little difference, how is it "because" of that they can do spins?

    Please Reiza, ignore all these physics discussions for the moment and focus the efforts on the multiplayer hosting features...

    Once MP is truly fixed (or the AI for the offline racers), then its likely people will enjoy much more the sim, even if the physics "isn't right" yet. It is good enough as is, it is far from making the game unplayable.

    MP development is lagging so much behind everything else :(

    The game was already updated twice sice the issue was an actual topic. It is no more an issue since last fix,so there is no more need to discuss that. And one couldl always since Beta, disable all driving aids, including TC and do burnout and donuts.

    Just ignoring your idea that Porsche's are specifically incapable of power oversteer for a moment (which is a pretty bold claim, btw), here is the Mercedes GT3 doing the same thing. Default settings. Traction Control set to 0. No power oversteer.

    The Mercedes AMG has a large heavy V8 high torque engine in the front, a comparable light rear and a fully reversed LDS ramp to the Porsches, and is using another manufacturer (usually Quaife), You're comparing apples with Oranges. And nobody wrote "it cant" i just stated that is has a power understeer character due to its layout, witch is the exact opposite of the AMG. The AMG in turn has a power oversteer character, while the Porsche is rather lift of and brake overtsteer. The 911 rear engined Porsches have rather low torque, high revolutions with a soft torque curve, a understeer tendency with them common knowledge, the front is light and needs splitters badly, high Camber does not work there very well due to lack of weight on the steering axle. All of this leads to 911 as well that they are hard to catch when traction is lost, due to exactly that heavy rear that keeps them planted until you lose it. Thats also the reason why you can drive them with 50/50 Brake bias. The 2017 911 RSR GTE is no "normal" 911, it's a mid engine design, just like the Cayman.

    Another reason for understeer in the rear engine porsche is also weight distribution. The centre of weight is not on the steering axle, so camber and toe don't work there so well. Often the camber in the front is set less then in the rear RL to gain brake grip.

    I have recorded something and give my report for it here in addition.

    I indeed needed to additionally increase diff clutches to 4, reduce power ramp to 60° and i lowered the wing to 4 just for the lulz. I think more clutch packages are probably not entirely bad for normal driving purpose too, without ruining turn-in.

    The diff is indeed quite open in the defaults still. (such things are still in an ongoing process of review anyway. Many diffs are still leaned a bit towards setting for the time, where AMS2 had the big driveline issues and now more lock is allowed/required in some cases indeed :) )

    Other changes are visible in the video, forgot to change to english localization, but the position of the values in the UI are the same.

    It's visible, that the longitudinal initial grip is still a bit on the high side (way better/lower than some versions ago tho, but also here reminder, that the process of incremental steps to have it changed without messing with overall handling too much, is still ongoing.^^)

    Of course after some spins, the tires are cooked, so it will be even more friendly to spin...

    Sorry for the 720p 20th century quality, i'm not what we should call a content creator :D

    @CrimsonEminence, RL 6-8 clutches are pretty standard for high torque applications. 2-4 is something one would find in FWD hot hatches till around 2009, when EPC became mandatory in most markets, and ATB and electronics became the norm.

    Some folks seem to forget that racing technology is nowadays rather a follower of mass production tech, not like it was back in the days, when racing was leading te way ahead. All teams and series now is about cost reduction, and using as much serial production parts as possible. There is less and less "space tech" involved in race cars, GTs in particular.
