    I think the thing people need to keep in mind is that there is no way to play a sim like AMS2 or other similar sims with lots of different types of cars and tracks and not learn how to adjust setup--and all of the different ways of doing so. A good default setup is still going to be no fun at Long Beach--that track is so bumpy that you've got to soften everything up to keep the wheels on the track. When doing a time trial I want maximum speed; when doing an hour long race I want predictability. There's also lots of good sim racing setup material out there which takes different approaches to attacking the problem. You don't need to focus only on videos/writeups targeting AMS2.

    However, I think the unanswered question for Reiza is, "Who is the default setup for?". For a newer sim racer or for a fair-to-middlin' driver (like me), understeer is just a lot more manageable than oversteer. In terms of keeping the car on the track and pointed forward, it's generally better to understeer into three corners than oversteer out of one. And it's easier to cool down front tires that have gotten a little overheated than it is rear tires. In short, "neutral" isn't really all that neutral for these types of users. With most cars in AMS2, I feel like I need to make differential adjustments to make the cars more predictable--springs and ARBs really don't get the job done; I need to take a bigger whack at it. For a newer person, I think ARB & spring adjustments (and aero) are more straightforward to learn than diff changes.

    All of said, understeer is slower than neutral-to-slightly-oversteery setups--both in AMS2 and in real racing. My impression is that the majority of people who spent a lot of time doing time trials are using default setups. Making predictable and slow setup to satisfy the new guy aren't really good for the time trial specialists or for better drivers. Hence my suggestion that the question isn't only about tire temperatures or telemetry, but what users are being targeted with the setups.

    Personally, all I ask for is that the default setup approaches are consistent (which I think they largely are). That is, if I figure out how to make myself happy in a Formula USA car, I know I'll do pretty much the same combination of changes to be happy in a Formula 1 car, regardless of generation. It wasn't always that way, so I think the work that steelreserv has done has made the sim better.

    What's the difference between "ReleaseCandidate" and my installed AMS2Beta which I got because of AMS2 season pass?
    I'm not a backer but with AMS2Beta I always get some updates days before the release.

    Indeed. Not only do we have F1 content covering six decades and change with some pretty credible grids, but you'd be hard-pressed finding major gaps in the class chronology. Of course there's always room for improvement, but AMS2 is sheer bliss for open-wheel nutters like yours truly.

    My humble suggestions for Santa Claus' backlog would be opulent stuff like a few more liveries for the F-Retro G3s, Silverstone 1952-74 and Brands Hatch 1960-75 (both essentially identical to what we've got but with old-school pit entrance end exit) and some period correct pit crews.

    The AMS2 Beta build are builds of ongoing progress that aren't available to the public (non-Beta testers).

    The Release Candidate is the result of the beta advancements, brought to a point where it could potentially release as is, but where bringing it out to the larger public to test it for a few days can help squash a few more unnoticed bugs.

    In other words, the Release Candidate is nothing more than what would before be a new patch, followed by bug reports and a hotfix, made optional. Once the hotfix is out, the build is released as the public main branch and the RC build is disabled.

    Thank you for updating most of the driver models, big improvement in immersion in VR and overall feeling of polish. The Ultimate also seems to handle bumps better, not sure if that's placebo but it feels good!

    As to the Ultimate Gen 1 and 2, can you put SOC, ERS mode and tyre temps on the LCD of the steering wheel? The RPM bar is useless as we have shift lights and tyre temps and ERS mode is only available on the UI which I prefer to completely disable for maximum immersion.

    It means that in VR, the gear shifter can move and doesnt remain static. The biggest improvement this regards is the copa montana, which previously used to shift with telekinesis

    Maybe if an actual stock car driver says it, it's actually not the tires being unsuited, but the physics being slightly inaccurate? There is no shame in admitting something doesn't quite work correctly; you don't have to make excuses.

    Tires are part of that car's physics package though. That the car isn't behaving exactly like Vitor is expecting has some detailed reason other than "physics inaccurate". While that may be true, it doesn't help anyone. What Steel is implying is that the tires can't be two different tires at the same time: punish for pushing slip angles and sliding, and stick when turning and putting down thousands of Newton-meters of driveline torque out of hairpins. The latter will put extreme force on the tires and ask them to effectively maintain good traction while sliding. Like Vitor said it could also be a setup difference, because that can help maximise traction out of corners and cushion the kick from sudden torque in low gears.

    Tested the beta build with the F1 gen 2. Pretty nice to drive with the ERS. Good job Reiza. What was a kind of a shock for me is the lack of smoothness and details inside the cockpit. Normally I don't care about those things but it was too obvious due to the reflective shader which is amplifying the imprefections. I think it's not up to AMS2 standard , not even up to modern sim standard. We can see polygon edges everywhere ( halo, rear view mirrors, habitacle, etc ). I hope it will be fixed on the release build. Thank you

    What are you trying to say here? "Don't say anything not positive until you've figured out the exact reason why it is happening"?

    I'm very aware what Steel said, and it's not what you are saying. He said it was right the way it is because of the particularities of tire behaviour (I know what he meant, but thx for the explanation nevertheless) which is odd considering a real driver doesn't feel that way.

    Now you come around, point towards the setup and tell me that my feedback is worthless because I didn't point out the exact incorrect physics value.

    ...ok.

    Can't just be admitting that maybe there was a little premature weaving problems away involved, gotta dish out some counterattack as well. Finding issues is not helpful at all, so how about we all stop that immediately?

    I forgot to mention that someone asked a question about bouncing, if the amount of bouncing in game was realistic. Victor said it is just like real life, the car does bounce quite a lot what makes it more challenging to drive. He expects the Galeao track to be quite bouncy in RL as this is a characteristic of airport tracks due to the type of tarmac.

    Has the issue with having mechanical failures switched on been fixed?
    I cant see any mention of it in the release notes.

    Nowhere did I say or imply that your feedback was worthless. I have no issues with honest observations such as the SCB's rear kicking out easily or lacking traction out of corners whether it comes from you, a professional race car driver or anyone. My issue is with the need to have some kind of statement like "physics are slightly inaccurate" when that is not fully known. FYI from my perspective any allowed setup differences between Vitor's real life car and AMS2 are not included in physics inaccuracies. Yet at the same time of course the sim car is always going to be slightly inaccurate and nobody should need to admit to that instead of exploring the key dynamics at play which is what Steel did. That is what confused me and caused the reply, but maybe I misunderstood your comment.

    Also please calm down, there is no need to put words in my mouth and get passive aggressive.

    That’s not at all what I was saying. I was simply explaining where the twitchiness may come from on exit.

    If anything I was alluding to the potential characteristic of the tire which is at play here so that people know what is going on. If it is indeed the tire.

    I don’t think it's fair to assert that some people’s opinions are valued more than others. Nor should it be assumed that since you posted a forum post that you are the only person who observes behaviors with the cars.
    What I will say is when certain peculiarities appear like the hairpin at Galaeo, the default setup, the physics and the driver have to be evaluated and neither you nor Vitor were the first to observe this and neither you or Vitor are responsible for determining the options to solve it. It may indeed be the physics of the tire which unfortunately this particular corner/tarmac combination exposes but also just as likely the setup. (Such as tear default tire pressure, rear damper rates).

    One final note for just you @Dicra . Make a better effort to check your tone. Oez is a legend around here and a personal friend of mine. Even I know better than to get in a physics debate with him.
